Yesterday I received a call from a friend asking how to set up a Hotmail email account on her new iPhone. The Outlook web site gives you a typical web-mail interface, with options for reading, writing and organising your emails. If - like me - you haven't used your Hotmail account for a while then you'll see a Welcome email with advice on how to get started with the new service, and how to import emails and contact info from other email services.

You can add your friends later.

The basic method involves entering a fake name and personal information when creating a Hotmail, Outlook, or Gmail account. This approach won't get you complete privacy, and you'll need a personal phone number to verify your account. But, it'll grant you more privacy than your standard account.

If you ever need to be able to do really comprehensive email analysis, and then deliver email to clients or a court, having a FileMaker database of your messages could be a win. It's been updated to be High Sierra-compatible. Just make sure you get version 4.1 or greater.
